Tips For Writing The Best College Essay
Offer something specific that illuminates the reader about who you are. Create an outline to make sure that every sentence is related to that one idea you are trying to share. If it's wildly interesting, funny or thoughtful but not about that specific idea, cut it.
Stuck on how to start writing? Work on the middle. Just putting ideas down will help your essay take shape.
Take stock of where you might get ideas for college essays, such as your extracurricular activities, home life, travel experiences, awards and honors, and so on.
Use your own voice. Don't try to get fancy with your writing.
Follow all rules on deadlines, length and packaging. Now is not the time to make your own rules.

Tips For Choosing An Independent College Consultant
An independent consultant will help your child find areas of study that might be appealing; match your child’s needs to the right universities; and assist with the entire application process. (I am not a college consultant.) Tips for choosing a consultant include:
Ask how the consultant works. Will he or she operate alone or will a team work on the application with the student? Decide which method will be right for your child.
Do not trust a consultant who promises to use “connections” or guarantees admission into one of your top schools.
Consider consultants who seem poised to give you unbiased advice about your student’s needs, abilities and prospects for college admission.
